Breakfast at the lodge and descent into the crater, and a full day’s game drive with packed lunch. The jewel in Ngorongoro's crown is a deep, volcanic crater, the largest unflooded and unbroken caldera in the world. About 20kms across, 600 meters deep and 300 sq kms in area, the Ngorongoro Crater is a breathtaking natural wonder. The road passes through beautiful countryside inhabited by natives with large herds of cows and goats, amongst volcanic hills and flat topped-acacias. Breakfast and check out of the lakeside hotel. Depart with picnic lunches toward the Sirare border with packed lunches. Border formalities, change of vehicle and driver guide. Day spent game-viewing in the reserve, which has over 450 species of birds and abundant large mammal species. After breakfast, drive to the Lake Nakuru National Park, famous as the home to thousands of lesser and greater flamingos. Lake Nakuru is one of the alkaline Rift Valley lakes and a fantastic bird sanctuary and the lodge is situated on its shore. Check-in for lunch. Afternoon game drive. Return to the lodge at sunset. After breakfast, transfer to the Aberdares, a beautiful mountain range in the central highlands of Kenya. Wildlife includes lions, leopards and serval cats, the latter often seen on the moorlands. Birds are not only dazzling but also plentiful. The crowned eagle, which eats monkeys, is everywhere and the forest echoes to the shrill cries of the silvery-cheeked hornbill. The resplendent sunbirds are well represented, among them the brilliant metallic violet tacazze, the emerald green malachite sunbird and on the moorlands you see the scarlet tufted malachite sunbird, with its very long slender tail. Arrive at Aberdares Country Club for check-in and lunch. You will be transferred by the lodge's bus to The Ark with only an overnight bag. Check-in at the lodge. The rest of the afternoon at leisure with game viewing on the lodge’s terrace, from where you can see a salt lick and a water hole, which are floodlit by night.
